Irina Baranova (mother)’s letter:

Frightening to think what we went through, before we managed to get Misha admitted to a hospital in Moscow for examination. All doctors in our town told us, that this is a condition special only to my son, while he was rapidly getting worse. At last Misha was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. When he was 2,5 years we learned that in addition to cystic fibrosis, Misha has got paroxysmal tachycardia. He started to have life-threatening seizures.

He was operated at Bakulev’s Institute, but the operation did not give the result we were hoping for. We received prescriptions for medication we should be using in addition to our basic therapy. Misha can not do several physical exercises that are advised for patients with cystic fibrosis in order to clean the lungs.

Misha’s latest tests have shown that he has lung infection pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is sensitive only to treatment with Colistin and Ciprofloxatine. Our family has yet no chance to purchase Colistin, we have tried to treat Misha with Ciprofloxatine only. The result has been negative, we have not been able to get rid of the infection and Misha’s condition has got worse. The doctors tell us that if we take a three-months course of Colistin, Misha can get better.

I do not work, and take care of Misha, while his father has just lost his last job when his department was closed down. We would like to ask you to help us pay for 180 doses of Colistin. Misha now goes to pre-school, he would love to be able to go to school like other children, he loves to draw and paint. He also likes to go to classes in IT and English — just like all today's kids, he loves computer.
