Patients with cystic fibrosis that turn 18 years old are in a very difficult situation in our country. For children we need to collect charity money for medications only when the regional clinics run out of the free drugs, or when the drugs are needed sooner than they can be provided by the government. Adult patients are not supported by the government at all. For such patients their 18th birthday is a very sad day.
Sergey is now 22 years old. For the past three years he hasn’t been taking any medication at all. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is slowly killing him. The situation is even further complicated by diabetes. Sergey has enough money to fight the latter, but not the former. To fight lung infection he needs antibiotic Toby that costs 262,955 rubles (8,750 dollars).
Right now Sergey is getting worse. Infection relapses every two weeks. The usual cheap drugs can take the edge off, but they can’t completely get rid of the infection. It is possible to improve Sergey’s condition. We ask for your help in doing that.
